Browsing through Turo. This is what a Tesla owner thinks it’s worth to drive a Model S for the day.

Hahahaha- NOPE!

Stereotypes exist for a reason I guess.
The available MBs are going for under $100, and even the new Boxster is $105.

But those batteries are eco-friendly!!
There seems to be a wide range on Turo, from quite reasonable, to “I don’t want to rent it unless I find a sucker”.
I’ve driven the Tesla - it’s nice, I guess, but I would never choose it over an E-Class, as an example.

But but but, you get to drive the future! A dystopian future, bit still!

So for the price of a Tesla I could drive a Boxster plus $65 worth of fuel and $30 worth of a fancy lunch.

On a per-pound basis, the Boxster and Tesla are comparable, though.

The E-class is $42!
There’s a GT-R on there for $230, but that makes sense.
But those batteries are eco-friendly!!
Don’t make me hurt you.

Need to photoshop Thulsa Doom with Elon’s face. Or maybe the Apple 1984 commercial.

$42 for an E class is a screaming deal! I’m renting an Impala or equivalent in 2 weeks in LA for about the same price.
I think you’re safe from having to hurt me :)

That’s what I was thinking. Wonder if I can get my wife to think the same. I’ll show her the Tesla first and talk her down to it. “See honey, the Parsh is a bargain!”.

Yeah, like a two-pound porterhouse is comparable to two pounds of ground chuck.

Also, someone’s got their Miata listed for $76. Please! I’m a Mazda fan, but even I know better. I’m liking the Mustang vert for 30-something.

More like 2 pounds of Porterhouse to 4 pounds of fat and gristle, but I get your point...

See, I think some of these people really aren’t interested in renting, but are willing to do it for a sucker.

That’s because the car is too new and the owner is trying to get as much cash flow as possible to cover his lease payments.
Older ones can be rented for less.

Any gas-powered luxury car is always going to be a better “car” than the Model S, which is mostly a powertrain/energy storage experiment.

My explanation is more entertaining, but yours makes sense. Personally, I can’t see renting out my car as a way of making it affordable. That sounds like taking on more debt than I would be comfortable with, but I know some people make it work.

I actually think the Model S is a good car, and it could be a great car if there was more quality control. And better seats, the damn thing needs better seats.

And more cupholders, and more door pockets, and some nice knobs and dials, and some fit/finish schooling, etc. etc.
Agreed, it’s a good car, just not so great of a “luxury” car.

When I was looking for a car in San Diego there was a guy who was wanting almost $400 a day for his Model X. Amazingly he actually had two rentals lined up that week and like five previous reviews so someone must not think that it’s too unreasonable. Either way it seems like a lot of people on Turo are either delusional or looking to scam idiots with too much money, not sure which.
Still doesn’t beat the dude with base 991 Carrera for $999/day.

If he’d had a sense of humor, it’d have been $991/day.
